Case Studies

(Basic safety-related analysis is provided to all airports FREE of charge!)

88NV, Black Rock City Airport

During its two weeks of operation, 88NV becomes one of the 100 busiest airports in the country, and one of the 10 busiest GA airports. Due to the extremely remote location and lack of radar, safety is a top concern.

In 2022, ADS-B data was used to identify several concerning hotspots of loss-of-separation events north of the airport. In 2023, recommended procedures were changed to address these concerns. LOS events in the changed areas decreased by about 70% during the subsequent three years (2023, 2024, and 2025).

This successful work motivated the creation of this website, to allow others to benefit from similar analyses.

7FL6, Spruce Creek Airport

Pilots at Spruce Creek Fly-In Community (7FL6), the world's largest residential airpark, have been engaged in a multi-year effort to obtain a Class-C airspace change to the north of their airport. Despite filing a 200-page report with the FAA — including two ADS-B studies commissioned from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University — advocates reported difficulty obtaining supporting traffic data from the FAA itself. We provided custom analysis to support their case, which included traffic analysis at the specific altitudes of their proposal.

AZ67, El Tiro Glider Port

The Tucson Soaring Club operates a fleet of gliders and tow planes and was having concerns about close calls with non-participating powered aircraft. We generated a custom analysis of proximity events specifically involving one glider and one powered aircraft, to help them map and understand the problem, which they will use to educate their pilots.
